Kathryn - KR Dance

Kathryn Richards

Kathryn first started dancing in Cornwall with Josie Tresise when she was six years old. After taking part in many dance competitions, festivals and performances including the All England championships, it became clear that dance was going to be more than just a hobby.

At twelve years old Kathryn went into full time vocational training after gaining a place at Tring Park , Hertfordshire where she studied ballet and all other theatre arts . Here she had the privilege of being taught by Cara Drower, Eve Pettinger, Rachel Rist and many more inspirational professionals. Following on from this she relocated to London where she was one of the youngest students to secure a place at The Royal Academy of Dance where she gained all her teaching qualifications including the Licenciate of The Royal Academy of Dance status.

However, following two years teaching in and around London her love of Cornwall and the desire to be near her family saw her return, where she established her first dance school in Truro. She also joined C.O.D Dance Company, along with Amely, directed by renowned choreographer Angela Praed, in works around the South West and also London, and Glastonbury Festival.

In 1998 she married and subsequently had her first son who was shortly followed by twins. It was at this point she decided to take some time away from teaching, but was soon persuaded to re-establish her classes starting with approximately 20 children on a Saturday morning.

The Kathryn Richards School of Dance - now KR Dance - has steadily increased in size to over 200 students, and success with the pupils continually achieving high levels in the Royal Academy of Dance exams, and also in IDTA Jazz and Tap Examinations and Medals, and also in regular Shows held now at AMATA in Falmouth University. Many past pupils of KR Dance have gone on to dance schools, colleges and Universities, but many more have left with a lasting love of dance.

Kathryn is immensely proud of all of her students and the level and standard of teaching herself and her fabulous team offer.
