Our Classes
At KR Dance, we believe dance is for everyone — whether you’re taking your very first steps in ballet, building confidence as a teenager or rediscovering the joy of movement as an adult. Our classes are designed to nurture each dancer’s ability, combining expert technique with encouragement, creativity and fun. From our tiniest beginners to our graceful Silver Swans, there’s a class to inspire every age.
Early Years Ballet

A joyful introduction to the world of ballet.
Our Early Years classes, held on Saturday mornings are specially designed for young children. Taught by Clare Hamilton LRAD, an experienced RAD-certified teacher.
Through music, movement and imagination, little dancers begin to explore ballet in a fun and nurturing environment. We know how important it is to support growing bodies and minds. Our teachers are trained not just in classical ballet, but also in child development and anatomy—ensuring your child learns safely and joyfully.
Pre-Preparatory (Ages 3+)
A gentle and imaginative first step into the world of dance. Our Pre-Preparatory class is specially designed for our youngest dancers—typically from age 3—providing a joyful, age-appropriate introduction to movement and music. This non-syllabus class focuses on creative exploration, musical play and body awareness, helping children gain confidence in their own unique way of moving. Through themed activities, storytelling and guided improvisation, children learn to express themselves, develop coordination and rhythm, and become familiar with the structure of a dance
class—all in a nurturing and playful environment.
This class gently lays the foundation for future RAD ballet training by building the focus, physical
skills and joy of movement that will support progression into Pre-Primary in Dance.
Pre-Primary and Primary Ballet

At KR Dance, we proudly teach the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus—an internationally respected system designed to support students as they grow in strength, technique and artistry.
We begin with the Pre-Primary and Primary levels, building a strong foundation in classical ballet
while nurturing creativity and confidence.
Pre-Primary in Dance
A joyful introduction to structured ballet learning, Pre-Primary in Dance is the perfect starting point for young dancers who are ready to begin their journey with the Royal Academy of Dance.
This class blends simple technical exercises with imaginative movement and storytelling, helping children develop balance, coordination, musicality and early performance skills—all while having fun.
The class environment is encouraging, playful and supportive, allowing each child to grow in confidence at their own pace. As they explore rhythm and expressive movement, students begin to form the building blocks of classical ballet technique.
For those who are ready, there is the opportunity to be entered for the RAD Pre-Primary Class Award—a lovely first achievement and a celebration of everything they’ve learned.
Primary in Dance
The next step in your child’s ballet journey, Primary in Dance continues to nurture creativity while introducing more structure and technique.
Children explore the foundations of classical ballet alongside free movement, which encourages
self-expression and musicality. At this stage, we begin to gently refine posture, coordination, and spatial awareness—always with a sense of joy and imagination.
This level helps prepare students for their first solo exam within the Royal Academy of Dance system. More than just an assessment, it’s a celebration of progress and confidence on stage.
Primary in Dance is the perfect next step after
Pre-Primary, offering a natural progression that still
keeps learning playful, supportive and fun.
RAD Graded Ballet (Grades 1–8)

After completing Primary in Dance, students typically move into our weekday RAD Graded Ballet
classes, where they follow a more structured training pathway.
From Grade 1 through to Grade 8, the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus supports each dancer’s development in strength, technique, musicality and artistry. Classes become more focused, with students learning to combine classical steps, free movement and character dance styles in more detailed sequences.
Each level builds on the one before, offering a clear sense of progression and achievement.
Exams are available but optional—many students choose to work toward them, while others enjoy
the classes purely for the love of dance.
We are proud that many KR dancers complete their Grade 8 Award before they leave us—an outstanding achievement that reflects years of dedication, joy and progress. These students often go on to continue their dance training at college, pursue careers in the arts or simply carry their confidence and creativity into whatever comes next.
Vocational Ballet (Intermediate Foundation – Advanced Levels)

At KR Dance, we are proud to offer three levels of Vocational Ballet training—from Intermediate
Foundation to Advanced. These classes are designed for dedicated students who show a strong commitment to ballet and wish to pursue advanced training, teaching qualifications or even a career in dance.
Vocational levels demand greater strength, precision, and performance ability. Training includes barre and centre work, allegro, pointe work and solo variations, with a focus on both classical vocabulary and expressive artistry.
Classes are taught by Amely Instance LRAD, an experienced RAD-certified teacher and registered RAD Examiner, ensuring students receive expert guidance and individual support.
Intermediate Foundation (RQF Level 2)
The first vocational level and a key transition point for students moving toward pre-professional
ballet.
Pointe work is introduced gradually (typically after 6 months of consistent training).
Intermediate
A required qualification for those pursuing full-time vocational training or RAD teacher training.
Focuses on more complex technique, performance skills, and control.
Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1 & 2 (RQF Levels 3 &4)
Our highest levels of ballet training. These grades develop a dancer’s full classical vocabulary,
technical strength, and performance artistry.
Recognised by professional training programmes and higher education institutions—these qualifications carry UCAS points, supporting future academic applications.
